Description
The highlights of the N12&N1 Route which stretches from George in the Western Cape to Pretoria in Gauteng Province, or vice versa, are many. This is not the shortest route, but for a detour of about 100km, the most scenic. Starting in the stunning coastal town of George trough Oudtshoorn, Meiringspoort Pass, north of De Rust, which carves its way across 25 bridges through the Swartberg mountain, and the Outeniqua Pass just north of George. It wanders trough towns like Prince Albert, Beaufort West, Richmond, Bloemfontein to Pretoria, covering 3 of South Africa’s 9 provinces, and multiple geological regions and biomes. The biomes varies from Fynbos, Forest, Karoo, succulent Karoo, savanna, grassland and semi-desert. This makes for an interesting Route, should you pause and enjoy the differentiation of vegetation and geological diversity.
