Bordering Angola and located in the north-eastern tip of Namibia, the rapidly growing town of Rundu is the main administrative and economic hub in the region; renowned for its goat, millet and cattle farming as well as its intricate wood carvings made by locals. Its location between Katima Mulilo and Grootfontein make it an ideal stopover while the Portuguese influences prevalent throughout due to Angola’s close proximity are sure to make for a fascinating stay. Its is also set on the banks of the Kavango River.

With the tourist boom that has stemmed from Rundu’s convenient location, wood-carving artefacts have become the unofficial symbol of the town with visitors able to purchase any number of wooden items from spoons and bowls to ornaments and masks. The woodcraft co-operative in town gives visitors the chance to watch the carvers at work and view an array of items available for purchase.

Rundu is a quaint town littered with interesting activities and several accommodation options. With the Rundu Airport situated on its outskirts and its location being much needed for refuelling, accommodation and stock-up purposes, Rundu is an obvious stop-over for those travelling between Etosha, Windhoek, the Caprivi Strip, the Okavango Delta and the Bwabwata, Mudumu and Chobe National parks.
